Industrial Placement Scheme

We act as a ‘recruitment agency’ in that we find 6 or 12 month placements for students studying a range of degrees including Business Studies, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, IT, Engineering and Science.

The system of placing students during their studies is intended to provide them with the experience of a real job in a real work environment, in order to apply the theory they have learned. Therefore, it is generally expected that the student be given sufficient tasks and responsibility within the role, along with having their own projects to tackle.

The principle aim of the placement year is to enable students to gain a much better appreciation of the relevance of their academic studies, to apply the theory they have learnt. Participation in a placement year leaves students better prepared to embark on careers in their chosen field on graduation.

If you are interested in a placement, please email us your CV and a covering letter, and we will work on your behalf to find you the right placement.

Graduate Placement Scheme

The Graduate Scheme deals with finding work placements for Graduates from a wide range of degree disciplines.

The principle aim of the Graduate Scheme is to enable graduates to gain a better appreciation of the relevance of their academic studies and to apply the theory they have learnt.

This scheme works in a similar way to the Industrial Placement Scheme, but instead of contacts with Placement Offices at Universities, we have contacts within the careers department and Graduate Recruitment Offices.

European Placement Scheme

 The European Placement Scheme aims to place students who are studying at European (EEC) Universities with British companies. The scheme enables students to gain practical work experience allowing them to put into practice theory they have learnt at University.

The placements are typically undertaken for a period of 3 to 4 months (20 weeks) from June to August. During this period students are required to complete approximately 10 weeks ‘general’ work in a field related to their area of study. For the remaining time, students should undertake tasks directly related to a specialist area.

The European Placement Scheme currently attracts some government subsidies. Consequently, we ask only that employer make a contribution towards the cost of accommodation/lodgings for the student. For students on the European Placement Scheme we will also arrange U.K accommodation in addition to our standard services.

We encourage students to apply for The Leonardo scholarship programme which can be awarded to students. The Scholarship is a contribution to expenses related to travel, cost of living, language and cultural expenses as well as insurance.

No work permits are required as all students belong to EU countries.In all cases, we also provide an induction, monitor performance and
development, and maintain contact with the student throughout their
placement

We would expect undergraduates to be fluent in English and be studying a variety of degrees, including; Business Studies, Human Resources, Information Management, International Business, Marketing, Hotel/ Hospitality/Restaurant/Tourism/ Management and Sports & Leisure. Applicants need to possess a current valid EU visa.

However, the scheme is not limited to undergraduates studying in these areas. We will consider all undergraduates who wish to gain work experience in Britain.

Our Services and Costs

The Placement scheme requires a one-off contribution per student. In some cases a government grant is available within the students home country. The one off cost of £300 covers:

• Finding a suitable job for the student
• Sending an information pack out to the student
• Finding suitable accommodation and negotiating an accommodation allowance for the student (around £80 per week)
• Setting out a work plan including objectives for the student whilst on placement and monitoring the student
• Liasing frequently with the employer, student and University and providing them with a helpline

Our service is to carry out the recruitment, selection and matching in line with each company’s specific criteria and requirements. Following the selection process we will then narrow down the candidates and at this point provide the CV’s of the best candidates from which the company can make the final decision.

We pay the National Insurance and PAYE contributions for the candidate, and in return for this, along with the recruitment procedure, we will put a percentage mark-up on the candidates wages and then invoice the company accordingly for their services.

European Placement Scheme

The aim of this scheme is to place European (EU) Undergraduate students with British companies for placements during the summer. The undergraduates are generally aged between 20 and 22 and are studying a variety of degree subjects.

The placements are generally undertaken for a period of 3 to 4 months (20 weeks) from June to August. During this time the students are required to complete approximately 10 weeks ‘general’ work in a field related to their area of study. For students on the European Placement Scheme we will also arrange U.K accommodation in addition to our standard services.

The Leonardo scholarship programme can be awarded to students from EU and associated countries who do their internship in the EU or associated countries (incl. Iceland and Norway). The Scholarship is a contribution to expenses related to travel, cost of living, language and cultural expenses as well as insurance. It gives the opportunity for 18-28 year olds to undertake a work experience placement in Europe for 3 - 12 months and to gain accreditation towards a national vocational qualification (NVQ).

No work permits are required as all students belong to EU countries.

In all cases, we also provide an induction, monitor performance and development, and maintain contact with the student throughout their placement.

Benefits

The companies that take on Industrial placement students benefit from:

* A fresh approach and outlook to their business
* Up-to-date abilities and knowledge
* Motivated and enthusiastic workforce

They also benefit as the recruitment service is free and ‘no hassle’ with wages as well as the opportunity to sponsor or recruit high performers.

The companies that take on European students benefit from:

* New ideas
* An international atmosphere
* Another language
* Another member of staff who is ‘value for money’

The students will be happy to take on specialist projects, perhaps when no one else has time, and they can also research new markets or business opportunities.
